The closest major airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, also known as DCA or KDCA, located in Washington, DC, at a distance of 72 miles from the city center of Doswell, VA.
How to get to Kings Dominion from Washington:
The best way to get from Washington, DC to Kings Dominion is by going east on Constitution Avenue (NW/US 50) toward 15th Street NW. From here, you have to turn right onto US-1 S/ 14th Street NW, and continue to follow US-1 S, which crosses into Virginia. Keep in mind that US-1 S becomes I-395 S, which turns into I-95 S. Take the VA-30 exit, toward Doswell/West Point, and than take the ramp toward Kings Dominion. Make a left onto VA-99/Theme Parkway and drive until you get to 16 000 Theme Parkway, Doswell, VA 23047-1918, which is the exact address of the Kings Dominion theme park.
By Air
The Richmond International Airport is located at a distance of about 15 minutes from downtown. The airport ensures internal flights from over 20 major US cities and also international flights, to destinations worldwide.
On The Ground
The simplest way to get around Richmond is by car, and there will be no problems in spotting a parking space, except for some few areas, such as the "Fan District". Also, parking on the street is usually free from Monday through Friday, in the evenings, after 6 p.m. and on weekends.
Train: there are 2 Amtrak stations in Richmond: one in downtown Richmond and the other one close to the city center, at about 10 miles west.
Bus: Greyhound, the intercity bus service) is quite a preferable transportation option because it is not expensive and it has stations all over the city, including close to downtown.
Public transportation: both local and paratransit bus are ensured by the Greater Richmond Transit Company (GRTC).
